Final Fantasy History
The year: 1987. A small Japanese company known as Squaresoft is on the verge of bankruptcy. They have been developing small simple games for Famicom Disk system, but the incomes were slim to none. Before they would go completely under, Hironobu Sakaguchi, the president of the company decided to make a final game to try to keep his company on the level. He went to the realm of a story style of game. Something similar to Dragon Warriors, but more than just saving the princess in a castle. It has to be more epic than even that. A crisis to face the entire world He thus called the game Final Fantasy, His final contribution, before retiring.
Over 20 years later, millions of fans all over the world play, replay, and play these games again and again. They get swallowed into the various worlds, where they share the joys and sorrows of each character. Many first time gamers agree that playing a Final Fantasy game is an entirely unique and incomparable experience. The little modest game once created by Hironobu Sakaguchi has spawned 13 sequels (XIII in current production for the PS3), across no less than eight different consoles. Two games have made appearances on the PC, and XI is the first Final Fantasy MMORPG. Final Fantasy was, and still is, a huge commercial success, that miraculously turned Squaresoft from a bankrupt company, to a gaming giant in the world of video games. Alone "Final Fantasy VII" for the PS1 has sold over 9 million copies (as of 2005), and still continues selling copies to this day. Many other titles in the series share in this success and popularity as well. Final Fantasy is truly the leader in the form of console-based RPGs. It has 9 of the 11 titles out at the time on Famitsu’s top 100 games of all time. The first place went to Final Fantasy X, while second place went to VII. This series is perhaps the largest single series in the world, and as of right now…there is no sign of them slowing down.
