"A mysterious young woman, controlled by the empire, and born
with the gift of magic...."
In the beginning of Final Fantasy VI, Terra is one of two characters able to use magic. She starts
out with a limited number
of spells, but as her levels increase she will gain more spells. Terra is the only character in
the game who can learn every
spell in the game, (Even the powerful Ultima spell) without the aid of Espers. Her magical power
is also stronger than other
characters, especially in Esper form. This makes her a great choice for areas where magic is key
to winning battles. |
|
"Treasure hunter, and trail-worn traveler, searching the world over for relics of the past...."
Not only is Locke a descent fighter, his ability to steal items from enemies is something useful
to have. He has the highest
dextrarity and speed of anyone in the game. This makes Locke a hard target to hit, and helps his
stealing ability. It makes
him a must have character in most of the game. |
|
"The young king of Figaro Castle, ally to the Empire, and master designer of machinery..."
Edgar is definitely one of the more powerful fighters in the game. His various tools are almost
indispensables. He has a vast
knowledge of machinery, and has fashioned several tools to use in his fight against the Empire. |
|
"Edgar's twin brother, who traded the throne for his own freedom..."
Sabin is perhaps the most powerful fighter in the game. He hits fast and
hard, and his blitz techniques
are unmatched. If you can get to where you can use his blitz's, he will definitely be one character
you will want to keep
around.
|
|
"He owes his alegance to no one, and will do anything for money. He comes and goes like the
wind..."
Throughout the first half of the game, Shadow never really joins the party
for good. He does, however,
join for the right price three different times. It is not until the second half of the game that
he joins for good. Even then,
there are certain things you must do to get him. (See the secrets section for more details) He
is not the most powerful fighter
in the game, but his throwing items more than make up for it. He is also a pretty descent spell
caster as well. He is a good
character to have, but not as good as say Sabin is.
|
|
"Product of genetic engineering, battle hardened Magi-Tek knight, with a spirit as pure as
snow..."
Celes is the only other character who begins the game with the ability to
use magic. But it is not really
her ability to use magic, that makes her a great asset. Her runic skill is something that is almost
a must in major fights.
Though Celes is good with swords, her strength is not as good as others. It is best to keep her
a a spell caster/absorber.
|
|
"Faithful retainer to his family's liege, with the courage and strength of a hundred men..."
Cyan's sword strength is enough to rival Sabin's power, but his attacks take
more time. This can prove
to be troublesome in lengthier fights. But even with this drawback, Cyan proves to be one of the
better fighters in the game,
and a force to be reckoned with.
|
|
"Draped in monster hides, eyes shining with intelligence. A youth surviving against all odds..."
Gau has no "attack" command at his disposal. He has to rely on either magic,
or the rage skills he learns
on the Veldt. Though the rage skills are some of the more powerful attacks in the game, he becomes
uncontrolable. His skills
are also unpredictable, and this makes him a bit detriment in some battles.
|
|
"A Blackjack playing, world traveling, casino dwelling free spirit..."
Setzer is one of the weakest characters in the game, as far as strength goes.
He is a gambler, and even
his choice in weapons reflect that. Without a certain weapon, Setzer is a "gamble" to have in the
party period.
The weapon that makes Setzer a powerhouse is often overlooked. If you can get a hold of his Fixed
Dice weapon, and hand him
an Offering relic, you will see why. The roll of the dice determines the amount of damage. anything
from 10HP to 9999HP regardless
of Setzer's level.
If you would like some extra damage, equip him with the Genji Glove, and his Dice as the second
weapon. With this set up,
he almost always eliminates the enemies on screen. Though the Dice are not as powerful as the Fixed
Dice, the same rules apply
with them.

|
"A human-loving, fast-talking, street-smart, SLAM-dancing moogle..."
This is the first time moogles play a major part in Final Fantasy. Mog is
not a powerhouse fighter,
but he still holds his own in a fight. He is great with magic, though his dances are somewhat unpredictable.
If you can give him the Snow Muffler suit, his damage is reduced to bear minimum. Mog is definately
someone who can serve
the party well. Not bad for a pink-winged, pom-pom toting, fluff-ball.
|
|
"An elderly gentleman, pure of heart, and learned in the way of monsters..."
Strago is a proficient magic user, both in regular magic, and his Lore spells.
He can learn a wide range
of Lore magic, that can be a great asset to the party in their struggle.
He is not a great fighter, but with his magical rods in hand, he can do some higher damage. These
rods will also increase
the potency of the spells they are infused with.
|
|
"In her pictures she catches everything: Forests, water, light...the very essence of life..."
Relm is no fighter by any means. Once you hand her a brush, and let her work
her magical drawings...and
she can hold up to most any monster.
She is the youngest of the crew, and can be a bit annoying. But her talents, and magic skills quickly
prove she should be
right there with them.
|
|
"Admirer of bone carvings, as strong as a gigas, a yeti pal with muscle!"
Umaro cannot use magic, nor does he have any commands of his own. He is still
a force to be reckoned
with. When in battle, Umaro is in a berserk state,
and pounds the enemy down, until it is dead. You could not ask for a stronger party member, but
at the same time you will
not have the extra magic or ability in the party.
|
|
"Shrouded in odd clothing...is it a man...?...A woman...?...or should we ask?"
Basically Gogo has no actions of its own. It looks to the moves of others
to decide what to do.Its art
of simulation can become very valuable.
It can perform almost anything anyone else does before it, without taking the time, or losing MP.
It cannot mimic the effects
of Relics or Armor, but who needs that when you can mime almost anything else?!?

|
"Leader of a mighty resistance, a wise man looking for the last ray of hope..."
Bannon has lost his fighting edge a long time ago. But his healing power
is still as potent as it was
ages ago. With a cast of his heal,
he can bring a hurting party back into action. This more than makes up for his poor physical power.
|
|
"Willing to help others, even in death...a true friend until the end of all ends..."
Ghost is a pretty good fighter, and a welcome ally in this dangerous part
of the journey. More so, if
Shadow has already left the party.
With his ability to possess any living being, and bring them to the other side...he will come in
handy at the time.
|
|
"Loyal to king, to country, and to his men..A general of morale and integrity, in a world of
chaos and destruction..."
General Leo is a skilled fighter with a sword. He easily deals massive damage
to just about anything.
He can also use his Magi-Tek
skills with his sword for even more destructive power. Though he begins on the wrong side, he fights
for what is right in
the end.
