A legend this mark surely is. Once you accept the hunt, Montblanc will tell you this creature was responsible for the demise of his Mentor who taught the moogles all they knew. Before you go rushing off, there are a few things to get ready first.
This super boss is going to be the fight of the decade. He has over 50 Million HP, more than any other boss in the series, perhaps in gaming history. He can be rough, if you are not leveled up enough. Make sure your main party is a level above 60-65, and the secondary party is at least level 50-55. Once you attain these levels, it get a lot easier to handle. If you can easily go through the Pharos lower levels, you can handle the mark.
You might want to also go for the most powerful weapons as well. The Zodiac Spear is a good choice of course, but there is actually a better one. Seek out the Rare game enemy Bombshell. He can be found in the Henne Mines in the Lasche Span. He will occasionally drop the Yagyu Darkblade. Yiazmat is weak to dark, making this a better choice for the physical fighter. Equip him/her with the Genji Glove Accessory, and your fighter can easily score 3-5 strikes/attack doing up to 9999 each time.
Spell wise, you need Arise, Curaja, Dispelga, Haste, Decoy, Bubble, Syphon, Berserk, and Hastega. DO NOT USE RENEW. Renew is great for quick heals, but later in the fight, Yiazmat will begin using Reflectga on your party. If he gets hit with a Renew, before you can get Dispeled, you will start all over again. It is best to just simply leave it out of the equation.
Using Decoy also allows you to use a second physical fighter, but I would still leave one out of range, in case things go horribly wrong. The second fighter should still be a medic of sorts, with the primary focus on healing and keeping status enhancements going. You should Equip them with a weapon and shield. The shield will provide them with added defense from Yiazmat's attacks.
The final party member should be ranged at all times. You would do good to try and keep them somewhere near an exit. This will allow for a quick retreat to the next area if you need it. And things can go wrong, even at high levels. Set their gambits for healing and status enhancements.
Once this is completed, go through the second party, and set them up. Being a lower leveled party, you will want to keep two in range, with one hitting physically. The second party should be used strictly to get the other party back up and fighting, or to get out of the area. Unless you spend the time to get them in higher levels as well. I did, and set them up the same as the first party. It gave me a bit more fight time than it would normally.
Bring along at least 99 Potions, Hi-Potions, Chronos Tears, and Phoenix Downs. If you have the Phoenix Lore 1, 2, and 3, you can utilize Phoenix Downs faster than Arise, and they will generate a great deal of HP. This can speed up getting KOed members back into the fight. Just be sure to reset the Gambits to Arise when you run out. And you can run out pretty quickly.
Armor wise, seek out Heavy Armor for your party. It might slow them down more than say Mystic Armor, but it provides the greatest defense. The party should have Grand Armor (Drop from rare monster Helvineck in Nabudis), or Maxamillion. The helmet of choice should be either Grand Helmet (drop from rare monster Tower in Nabudis), or the Magepower Shishack. The Shield of choice for the Decoyed fighter should be the Zodiac Escutcheon (Treasure in the Great Crystal upper layer, or Barhiem Passage). If you cannot or do not want to go for this shield, A demon Shield will work as well. Be sure also that you have three windbreakers. One of Yiazmats attacks is wind based, and these can be equiped to lessen the blow.

Gambit Set Up
Ok, here is the Gambit set up I had for my characters. I used Vaan, Ashe, and Fran.

Ok, as you might have noticed, Vaan is the main attacker, and yet Ashe is the one under Decoy. There is a major reason for this. In my first fight with Yiazmat, I tried a trick of allowing Yiazmat to go after another person, while my main attacker just unleashed his assault. It worked greatly in my favor. You might not like the idea, but I did. The strategy will be based within this set up. But this is just one persons set up too. Try different things out yourself, and see if you can find a better way.
You might have also noticed that Fran and Ashe also have Ally: Vaan/Syphon. This should be shut off in the menu, until it is needed. When you need a MP boost for either, just turn it on, and let them syphon Vaan 2 times. Once that is done, shut it off again. Vaan hitting as many times as he does will quickly regain MP, especially with the Inquisiter Licence. This will also keep you from having to use Ethers, or Elixirs, and the Charge Technick. You cannot afford a miss on Charge at any time in this fight. Syphon is 90% accurate, and you do not lose MP if the spell misses. And it rarely misses. Once you feel you are ready you can head in. Remember, if you are hurting, you can leave the area, and replanish yourself, get more supplies, and anything else you might need to do. The battle goes in phases, so I will go through each phase as well.
PHASE 1
When you reach Yiazmat, Dispel him right off, once this is done, spread the fighters out. Try to keep Fran and Vaan on the sides, while Yiazmat attacks Ashe. Have Vaan cast Berserk on himself, and let him go to town.
Yiazmat will hit the party with Stone Breath, White Breath, Cyclone, and physical attacks. Stone Breath will be countered with Esunaga, while the Chronos Tears will take care of the Stop effect White Breath deals. With the party spread out, the final character to get hit can usually restore the first character befoer the effect gets them. Cyclone is a poerful wind based attack. There is no way to avoid it, but if you can get your Windbreakers on before it executes, you can reduce the damage. Once the attack is over, switch back to your normal armor. Esunaga will take care of Cyclones Sap effect. This first part is very straight forward, and you should ahve really no problem with it.
PHASE 2
When Yiazmat hits about half way through his life bar, he will change up and add another attack: Death Strike. As the name implies, it will kill a character instantly. He loves to also chain it together, thus trying to wipe your entire party out. with the Phoenix Down Gambits, you might be able to get them back, before he can wipe all three out. This is where you will also begin running out of the area more and more. With Death Strike, it becomes somewhat difficult to keep everyone going. It should aslo be noted that Death Strike will take top slot over any action other than attack. It will delay any other action, until it is complete. You can use this a bit to your advantage, by manually casting Arise/Phoenix Down on the character getting targeted, before the attack hits. This makes for a quicker revival.
Yiazmat in this phase will also begin using Rake more often, which can KO a character in one turn. Just keep everyone up in health, and do not be afraid to leave if you need to. Make sure though to leave the area. If you remain in the Colliseum area for more than 30 seconds out of range, Yiazmat will begin healing himself to full health in a few seconds.
PHASE 3
when you get Yiazmat down to around 10-15 bars of health, he will use Growing Threat to double his level. This makes him a stagering level 146. This will strengthen his attacks and defense. At this point, everything will have to change a bit if your levels are not high enough. Stop using Berserk on Vaan all together. You will want him to be able to perform other things now more than before. Ashe should have a Bubble Belt on, but it might be a good choice to give one to Fran as well now. Keep the Genji Glove on Vaan, and just let Bubble get cast on him. If you think it might work, (It really didn't with me) set Vaan up with Ally: Ashe/Reverse. This way any attacks given to her will restore HP, rather than damage her. A good thing to remember is each time you leave and return, Yiazmat will cast Growing Threat followed by Cyclone. Each time you re-enter, have the Windbreakers on, and switch them out after he has cast his attack.
PHASE 4
This final phase comes when Yiazmat hits the last 4 bars of life. He will begin casting Reflectga each time you enter the arena. This is why Renew is left out, and Ally: Reflect/Dispelga takes the top slot of everything. You want this removed immediately. Renew will fully restore Yiazmat, and trust me you do not want that. Now each time you enter the arena, Yiazmat will cast Growing Threat, Cyclone, and Reflectga. With the gambits set up, this should not be a bother. Remember to get those Windbreakers on before going back in, and then removing them after Cyclone. At this point, if you have a character with Zodiark, have a character hit them with stone, and summon him. He will use his Final Eclipse right off, which WILL do 50,000 damage. This is a toss up though, as it will consume some much needed MP. You could also send in the second party, and unleash a quickening chain, then switch them out. Whatever you do, keep yourself up and going, and Yiazmat will finally fall. Congrats, you have defeated the Boss of all bosses in Final Fantasy!
